有一個驚妻的人在得,
有一暗在睏,忽然間大笑起來.
[伊心]妻就與伊搖精神,即問伊講:
"汝夢見甚貨,此呢歡喜?"

[伊心]夫就講:
"我夢見娶一個真美的細姨,
 所以此呢歡喜的."

[伊心]妻聽一見,氣到半小死,
就罵[伊心]夫.

"這算是夢見的,
 本是無影跡的事情,
 汝怎樣拿做真的呢?
 怒氣到如此?"

"別款的夢,都准汝夢,
 像此號款的夢,後來不准汝夢."

[伊心]夫就講:
"以後,不敢夢像彼號夢就是了."

[伊心]妻就講:
"我不信,汝睏去夢見,汝自己知影,
 我不拘不知影."

"無,我對今仔日起,一年三百六十五日,

 更較怎樣,我亦不敢睏就好嗎."

[Jealousy due to a dream]IDX

There was a hen-pecked husband.
One night, at sleep, (he) suddenly gave a wild laugh.
His wife woke him up, and asked him:
"What did you dream of to be so happy?"

The husband replied:
"I dreamed that I married a real beautiful mistress.
 So I was so happy."

The wife hearing it blew her top in great anger,
and scolded her husband.

The husband then said:
"This is after all (only) a dream.
 From the beginning, it's (unreal) like something which has not its own shadow.
 How could you take (it) for real,
 and get so angry?"

The wife replied:
"For other kinds of dream, (I) would allow you to have;
 (But) for this kind of dream, from now on I would not allow you to have."

The husband then said:
"No. From now on, (I) dare not dream that kind of dream (ever again).  
 That's it."

The wife said:
"I don't believe. When you dream in a sleep, you know by yourself.
 But I don't know (about your dream at all)."

The husband then said:
"Then, starting today, for three hundred and sixty five days a year, 
 I will stay up every night until dawn.
 Whatever it be, I will not dare to sleep (ever again).
 Then it should be fine (with you)."
