一個後生,二歲了.

此個姓李的,托一個媒人
去與彼個姓張的講:
"伊彼個查某子愛要給[伊心]後生

姓張的聽見真怒氣,即講:
"阮查某子今年適一歲,
 [伊心]後生已經二歲了,
 這敢不是加大一倍呢?
 如此算起來的時候,
 阮查某子若食到五十歲,
 [伊心]後生就一百歲咯,
 我何肯給阮查某子配
 彼呢老的子婿呢?"

[伊心]妻就講:
"如此汝算不著了,
 阮查某子今年雖然是一歲,
 不拘等到明年就與[伊心]後生同年嗎."

There was a Mr Chang,
who had a daughter, just one year old.
Also, there was a Mr Li,
who had a son, over two years old.

(One day) Mr Li sent a matchmaker
to tell Mr Chang:
"It looks certain that Mr Chang's daughter is
 (destined) to be the wife of Mr Li's son (in the future)."

Mr Chang, hearing this, got very angry, and said:
"This year our daughter is just one year old.
 (But) his son is already two years old.
 Isn't it twofold the age of our daughter.
 To count it this way,
 when our daughter gets fifty years old,
 his son will become one hundred years old.
 How can I let our daughter marry 
 such an old son-in-law?"

His wife then said:
"So you have counted it wrong.
 Though our daughter is one year old this year,
 wait until next year, and she will be the same age as his son."
