有一個夯枷的,
朋友有看見伊,即問伊:
"汝做甚麼歹事即能如此的?"

伊就講:
"我對街裡經過,
 有看見在土腳,有一條草索,
 我看做無路用的物,
 就拾起來,提得就行,
 續被罰到此款."

朋友就問彼講:
"干乾拾著彼款的草索而已,
 怎樣變到此呢大事?"

夯枷的就講:
"恁不知影.
 彼條索仔尾有縳少些物在得了."

朋友就更問伊:
"彼是甚貨呢?"

伊就講:
"有一隻細細仔隻的牛在得."

[A calf thief]IDX

There was a man in shackles.
A friend seeing him then asked him:
"Did you do anything wrong to become so?"

He then replied:
"As I walked by the street,
 (I) found a piece of rope on the road.
 I thought it to be something useless.
 So (I) picked it up, pulled along, and walked on.
 And then (I) got punished like this."

The friend then asked him:
"(If you) simply picked up such a rope,
 why did (you) get so seriously (punished)?"

The man in shackles then replied:
"You don't know (the fact).
 To the end of the rope was something little attached there."

The friend then asked him further:
"What's it?"

He then replied:
"It was a very very little calf there."
